Sure, downtown is hip, and Chinatown is the trendy dining scene, but if you want outdoor seating during a pandemic, head to the suburbs. This afternoon, I drove west (toward Summerlin, a Howard Hughes corporation planned community), and stopped at MadHouse Coffee for a cold brew and chocolate cookie (they gave me two, maybe because I always hit the maximum tip button, or maybe because I was the only customer wearing a mask, or maybe just because there were only two cookies left).

The most distinctive thing about this place is the countercultural decor, even in the bathroom.

Of course, once you step outside you're in a strip mall, but it's a strip mall with patio seating where I can get some reading done, and I'll take that.
